Lower Back Pain Caused by Lumbar Disc Herniation

Dr. Steven Shoshany, a leading NYC chiropractor, is a specialist in non-surgical treatment of painful herniated discs.  His patented and highly sought-after Spinal Decompression treatment is the most effective protocol available to release pressure and restore appropriate space between vertebrae to allow discs to function and provide shock absorption to the spine.

Discs become herniated when the external membrane ruptures under vertebral pressure (due to poor posture, sedentary lifestyle or trauma), causing the internal matter to leak out, which can irritate the surrounding tissue.  Additionally, the pressure resulting from compressed vertebrae can cause impinged nerves, causing inflammation and pain that can extend from the lower back down the buttocks and legs, also known as sciatica.

Lumbar disc herniation is a common condition that can affect patients of all ages; however, incidence is higher in patients over the age of 50 and those with inactive lifestyles and poor nutritional habits.  Disc herniation can be easily detected with a simple chiropractic examination.  Symptoms of lumbar disc herniation include muscle spasms, leg numbness, weakness or tingling, and sharp or dull pains in the back, buttock, or leg area which can be aggravated by movement.

As painful and limiting as lumbar disc herniation can be, the condition is fortunately easily treatable and the vast majority of cases do not require surgical intervention.  Dr. Shoshany’s patented spinal decompression therapy is the most effective non-surgical treatment available.  Safe and painless, each session lasts about 20 minutes and is administered 2 to 3 times per week.  The duration of the treatment cycle depends on the patient’s initial condition as well as individual progress and response to treatment.  During treatment, patients lie comfortably while the spinal decompression device gently stretches out the affected vertebrae to increase space and release pressure.  Over the course of treatment, patients will experience increased comfort and a progressive reduction of pain.  There is no downtime or recovery period, and patients are free to continue their daily activities throughout their spinal decompression cycle.

Additionally, Dr. Shoshany offers chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, medical massage therapy, cold laser therapy, and many other complementary non-surgical treatments that can enhance the effects of spinal decompression and provide long-term relief to patients suffering from lower back pain.  The benefits of spinal decompression will extend to the rest of the body, as the spine is the body’s control center.  Patients who undergo spinal decompression can also expect an improvement in overall health.
